Who this is not for
- During pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
- Anyone with a neuromuscular condition, or taking a medicine that affects the neuromuscular junction.
- Anyone with an infection or a rash in the area being treated.
What happens on the day
The area is cleaned, the muscles are marked while you frown and raise your eyebrows, and a series of small injections are placed along those marks. Most people describe it as a sharp scratch that is over before they have decided how they feel about it.
You can go straight back to work. There is nothing to see afterward beyond a few small raised marks that settle within the hour.
Nothing changes on the day. The muscle softens over the following week, which is why the review appointment is two weeks later rather than two days.
Aftercare
- Stay upright for four hours.
- No gym, sauna or hot yoga for 24 hours.
- Do not rub or massage the area.
- A small bump at each site settles within an hour.
